1st Rwenzori Region Agribusiness Tour
In March 2024, Sustainable Agri-Food Initiative (SAFI) successfully organized its inaugural Rwenzori Region Agribusiness Tour, empowering a diverse group of participants to explore the exciting potential of the region’s agricultural sector.
This project provided exposure to a range of established agribusiness enterprises, delving into critical areas including; coffee production and value addition, Hass avocado propagation and oil extraction, processing of dairy products (yogurt, pastuerised milk, UHT milk, and fresh creams), processing of beekeeping products (honey, propolis, pollen, bees wax, bee venom and honey combs) and vermi-composting.
For 4 days, this exposure trip comprised of emerging agribusiness entrepreneurs, extension service providers, and businesses within the food system, particularly those focused on post-harvest handling.
The 1st Rwenzori Region Agribusiness tour was more than mere exposure. It equipped participants with a deeper understanding of sustainable production methods, post-harvest processing techniques, and valuable value-addition strategies.
Through hands-on training sessions and engagement with established agribusiness enterprises including Biosyntec Uganda Limited, Bunyangabu Bee Keepers Cooperative , Tooro Dairy Cooperative, Agri-Evolve Coffee Company, among others, the project officially opened by Mr. Rukara Julius the Senior Agricultural Officer of Kasese District Local Government.
