Mission

To improve technical knowledge, farm production and productivity and livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Uganda.

Vision

We envision a poverty-free, vibrant and sustainable food-secure world.

Our Approach

We take a multi-dimensional approach to addressing poverty and food insecurity, recognizing  that there is no single solution to this complex challenge. Our programs focus on the following  areas

Agriculture & Livelihoods

We support small-scale farmers to improve their  productivity, access markets and adopt sustainable practices. We provide training,  technical assistance and access to inputs, such as seeds, fertilizers, and tools.

Nutrition

We work to improve access to nutritious and diverse foods, especially for  vulnerable groups, such as women and children. We promote nutrition education and  behavior change, and we support the production and distribution of fortified foods.

Resilience & Climate Change

We help communities to adapt to climate change and build resilience against shocks and disasters. We promote Climate Smart Agricultural practices such  as conservation agriculture, soil and water management, agro-forestry, diversification and improved crop varieties. We also support the development of climate-smart  technologies.

Policy & Advocacy

We work to influence policies and practices that affect food security, nutrition and poverty.

We advocate for policies that promote social and economic equity in addition to engaging with governments, donors, and other stakeholders to promote change for the good.

SAFI & the SDGs

Since our inception, we have been deeply committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an international framework for a more just and prosperous future for everybody. In particular, we are directly supporting several goals, including Goal 13 (Climate Action), Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), and Goal 1 (No Poverty).

Our mission revolves around SDG 1: No Poverty. We believe that enabling people and communities to break free from the cycle of poverty can unlock a world full of possibilities. By making investments in production, entrepreneurship, value addition, and innovation, we improve economic growth.

We create projects that enable young people and women to start their own businesses, generating long-term employment and means of subsistence.

SAFI's work was recongized at the African Youth SDGs Summit in Lusaka, Zambia winning the SDG Achiever's Award

Our goal at SAFI is to nourish not only bodies but also a better future for all. We understand how important we are to reaching SDG 2: End Hunger. Our strategy supports a healthy agricultural ecosystem, empowers farmers, and encourages sustainable practices—all of which actively contribute to a world where everyone has access to wholesome, safe food.

SAFI plans and leads extensive training courses for farmers. These courses give farmers the information and abilities they need to adopt sustainable practices like integrated pest management, water conservation, and soil health management. This approach encourages a healthier environment for coming generations in addition to increasing yields and lowering dependency on dangerous chemicals.

Our influence goes beyond the farm; by using climate-smart agriculture practices, we’re encouraging crop diversification for improved nutrition and resilience building. Measurable outcomes like greater food security, less water use, and a more sustainable agricultural ecosystem are all facilitated by these tactics.

Beyond awareness campaigns, SAFI contributes to SDG 13: Climate Action. By planting trees strategically, we address climate change head-on. Involving the community is essential. By involving locals, encouraging sustainable practices, and advocating for change, we make addressing climate change a team effort. In the highlands of Kasese district, we are championing sustainable land management practices.
