Sustainable Agri-Food Initiative (SAFI)

We empower communities to improve productivity, strengthen climate resilience, and increase household incomes.

We empower communities to improve productivity, strengthen climate resilience, and increase household incomes.

We are a farmer-centered, youth-led social enterprise delivering research-based knowledge tailored to farmers’ environmental and agricultural needs. By sharing practical insights, innovative tools, and market-driven support, we empower communities to improve productivity, strengthen climate resilience, and increase household incomes. We partner with smallholder farmers and stakeholders in the agriculture space to transform Uganda’s agri-food systems.
Our expertise in agricultural extension, value addition, and innovation comes from leading projects and collaborating with partners to design and implement programs. This expertise gives us firsthand insight into the daily realities and challenges faced by smallholder farmers and informs the development of effective empowerment solutions. For example, after attending one of our training sessions, a farmer in Kasese shared that new soil management techniques helped her double her maize harvest in a single season. With increased yields and improved profits, she was able to reinvest in her farm and support her children’s schooling. Stories like hers show the tangible difference our approach makes in people’s lives.

Thematic Areas

Agriculture for Food and Nutritional Security

This is the core of SAFI’s work. We focus on transforming basic subsistence farming into a system that provides diverse, nutritious diets.

Environmental Conservation and Climate Change Resilience

SAFI recognizes that climate change poses significant challenges for smallholder farmers and is their greatest threat. We work to future-proof Ugandan agriculture against unpredictable weather.

Agribusiness Enterprise Development

Instead of focusing solely on farming, we approach it as a business, specifically targeting youth and women to break the cycle of poverty.
