We are proud to have hosted and trained undergraduate students from: Makerere University, Mountains of the Moon University, Uganda Martyrs University, Kabale University, Bugema University, and technical and vocational institutions throughout the Rwenzori region.

The Idea

For the past five years, our internship program has served as a premier bridge between academic theory and the practical realities of agriculture. By providing a fertile ground for growth, we transform passionate students into skilled professionals ready to tackle the challenges of a changing climate and a growing global population.

Since our inception, SAFI has nurtured talent from across Uganda’s leading academic institutions. We are proud to have hosted and trained undergraduate students from: Makerere University, Mountains of the Moon University, Uganda Martyrs University, Kabale University, Bugema University, and technical and vocational institutions throughout the Rwenzori region.

Program Structure

1. Climate-Resilient Agronomy

Interns work directly on our demonstration farms and with our partner smallholder farmers. They gain expertise in regenerative practices, soil health management, and integrated pest management. You won’t just read about sustainable yields; you will help achieve them.

2. Agri-Entrepreneurship and Value Addition

We believe farmers should be business owners. Our interns assist in developing value-added products, that is, transforming raw harvests into market-ready goods. From post-harvest handling to supply chain logistics, students learn how to turn a harvest into a sustainable livelihood.

3. Community Extension and Knowledge Transfer

Communication is key to change. Interns participate in our outreach programs, learning how to translate scientific concepts into actionable advice for local farming communities. This develops essential soft skills, such as leadership, empathy, and cross-cultural communication.
